Radiofrequency is the application of high-frequency electromagnetic waves to the skin that cause controlled heating of the different layers of the skin. The doctor will use a piece containing one or two electrodes to supply radiofrequency energy to the different layers of the skin.

This heating process causes the hardening of the existing collagen as well as the stimulation of new collagen formation.

Some machines also include a cooling spray that cools the treated skin immediately after the action of the radio waves. An anesthetic cream can be applied and then removed before treatment begins.
