HOW DOES GENERAL SURGERY WORK?
Take your time and read this page carefully. It will give you information about how we work. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them.
1. Fill in the questionnaire
Fill out the questionnaire or you can also contact us by email: use our contact form. Once we receive this form, our patient coordinator will write or call you back very soon. We can then begin the process of designing the best treatment option for your procedure.
If you have any questions or need more information just tell us and we will be happy to help you in any way we can. Once you have decided to continue, we will help you with each step of the way. For almost all medical procedures, your specialist will need to know your medical history, see relevant medical records and a letter from your G.P. confirming that you are fit for treatment.
Any other tests you may need, such as ECG, blood tests and scans will be discussed at your first consultation and will vary depending on the type of medical procedure and medical specialty you would like us to perform.
2. First Consultation
In your first consultation, you will meet with the specialist you have chosen, have an exam, and be able to analyze the procedure you are interested in and the results you expect to achieve.
All of our medical specialists have a lot of experience in their field. They will be able to give you an honest opinion about the treatment options that are available to you. They will also discuss postoperative care.
3. Medical questionnaires, GP letters
You will complete a medical questionnaire with your doctor. It will give us all the information we need to know about your health and lifestyle in general, sometimes it is necessary to discontinue some medications before treatment and make some lifestyle changes.
Your doctor may also recommend medications to take before receiving your treatment in order that any underlying medical condition, such as anemia, may be corrected.
Don't forget to bring copies of medical records and comments from your general practitioner or any other medical specialist.
You will be given consent forms for the operation or medical treatment.
You will have time to study them and you will have to return them signed before your treatment.
4. Preoperative Tests
You will need all your preoperative tests before the operation: newer blood results (no more than 2-3 weeks), chest x-ray (with description), ECG (also with description) and breast ultrasound (only in the case of breast surgery) we recommend that you bring any recent tests you had with you to your first visit.
In the case of any major pathology that requires further investigation or treatment, this may delay the date of the operation until the problem has been resolved. Keep in mind that all preoperative testing is done for your safety and it is important to be honest about any pre-existing conditions. If you do not do so, your surgery may be cancelled, which may result in costs that you will have to cover.
5. The operatation time
Once you have made the decision to continue with your treatment or surgery we can give you a date for your operation, you will be asked to pay a small deposit to guarantee the reservation.
6. Payment
Payment and Refund Policy. Please read the following text:
Please note that you will pay your treatment providers directly.
All costs you pay are paid directly to your specialist and the hospital,
There are no additional charges at the top, the price is the same as if it were directly, you will only pay us for any additional services we provide.
We ask for a 10% deposit when you decide to continue and we make the reservation with the specialist and the hospital, it must be paid no later than 7 days before surgery. The balance must be paid no later than the day before surgery. If you cancel less than 1 week before surgery, you will lose your deposit, which is taken as a sort of fee agreement for the reservation and any other charges we may incur. For any other questions, please send an email or call us. Please note that this payment is calculated for the proposed procedure and hospital stay at the facility and cannot cover additional costs that may arise from any complication requiring additional time or treatment at the facility. This information is fully explained on the consent form.
Pre & Postoperative Care
Before your operation, you will consult your specialist or a member of his team to review all tests and make sure you are well prepared for your surgery, and the opportunity to ask any other questions.
7. Surgical Procedure
On the day of surgery, you will be given time to get to the hospital. You will usually be asked not to eat or drink for at least eight hours before surgery.
After some formalities at the reception, you will be taken to your room, you may want to take a family member or friend with you to keep you company.
For patients undergoing surgery in Marbella, we offer a special service which is explained below.
8. Post-Operating Recovery
When your specialist doctor is satisfied with your post-operative recovery, he or she will leave you in the hospital the same day of the operation and/or the next day. In the case of larger or multiple surgeries, you may spend a longer time in the hospital.
When you leave the hospital, your doctor will give you instructions for the postoperative period. You may need to take medications and take care of the surgical site with compression garments or a special bra, and your activity may need to be limited initially.
Follow-up appointments will also be arranged to check your progress and remove stitches. Our team will be available to answer any questions you may have.
